Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a very diverse school district and at a Title I school. Many of our students come from low-income families and qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite economic challenges, it is my job to show these young learners that with hard work they can achieve their goals.
I teach the future of our country.
My young second graders are energetic and eager to learn. Each student is a unique individual, and it is my goal to help each of them realize their potential. I focus on building relationships and creating a positive classroom community. I want each of my students to feel safe in my classroom and happy to come to school each day.
My Project
In today's world, it is more apparent than ever that young students need to be taught good character and social skills. One way to teach these skills to young students is through books. I have a wonderful curriculum with lessons that go along with each book. Each lesson has a goal that the students learn by reading and discussing what happens to the characters in each book.
Your generous donation to our classroom will help improve the social and emotional skills of my students in and out of the classroom.
Students relate to characters in each story and apply these lessons to their own lives. In the book "Because Amelia Smiled," students learn that our actions can impact others. The book "Red: A Crayon's Story" teaches us we all have special talents. "Up the Creek" teaches that we can disagree politely, and a book like "Rosie Revere, Engineer" teaches students to never give up. Each book has a lesson that students can apply to their every day lives.
