I am currently teaching math and science to 4th graders, but will be making the move to 1st grade next school year. I get to teach 1st graders how to read, and I could not be more excited! I will have around 40 little learners. I LOVE to read! I want them to be enthusiastic about reading too. I feel blessed to be a part of their learning experience. We live in a very rural area and we don't always have access to the materials we need to support/enhance our students’ learning.
My Project
I have been teaching in 3rd and 4th grades for several years. As a result, I have accumulated many, many higher level books. I am making the move to 1st grade for the 20-21 school year and need to build a library full of books that my 1st graders can learn to read with success. That is so important to new readers! These leveled readers will allow me to pair my students with just the right books for them. These leveled reader sets will be so useful while I am working one-on-one or with a small group of students during our reading class. I also need to start gathering materials for the students to use during our shared reading and guided reading time. I want their learning to be fun and engaging!
