I have 24 WONDERFUL second graders in my classroom. I have students that are very bright for their age and are placed in enrichment and gifted programs, and I also have students who are in Reading Recovery programs and receive various supports throughout the building. There are tons of personalities going through the room with some kiddos being energetic and outgoing and others being shy and slow-to-warm-up.
Since our school is an ESL school, I also have a lot of students from diverse backgrounds including Lithuanian, Arabic, Spanish, and Indian.
ALL of the students are so kind, caring, respectful, and honest and I care for each and every one of them so much already. I have 13 adorable little girls who are fun, energetic, and sweet. Complimenting them nicely, are my 11 "cool" boys who definitely keep me on my toes trying to come up with new ways to meet their BUSY ways!
All of my students are so well-behaved and hard-working and receive so many compliments from other teachers, special teachers, lunch room monitors, recess monitors, and more. I can't begin to express enough how each and every one of them deserves the WORLD!
These books will help create and expand my classroom library, which will give my students more opportunity to learn and develop a love for reading. Supporting students to become strategic and fluent readers is very important in second grade, as they build on those concepts greatly in upper elementary.
As our district heavily implements the Daily 5 in our Language Arts curriculum, it is very important that students have a variety of books to choose from that interests them and compliments their skill level.
The students will be able to choose 3-5 books from our classroom library every week, and keep the books in their book bins. When guided reading takes place, the students will utilize these books through Daily 5 centers where they will "read to self", "read to someone", and "listen to reading" with the awesome selection of children's books I will have to offer them in my classroom library.
