Help me give my students more books for our classroom, Time and Scholastic magazines, a pocket chart stand, laminating sheets, Magna tiles, whiteboards, and a printer with ink.
As a teacher at a Title I school, students come into my classroom from a wide range of backgrounds. While every student has a different story, they all come to school with one goal in mind. They want to learn as much as they can about the world. My goal is to provide them with the best opportunities possible when they enter my classroom.
My students have an interest in reading that I hope to turn into a passion.
They are eager to learn and experience the world, but with limited resources, it is hard to let them see the world outside of our small district. The best way to open the world to them is through reading!
My Project
Most of the resources that I am requesting are mentor texts to use to teach key concepts that first graders need to master. I love using mentor texts while teaching new standards because it helps the students to relate a more abstract concept to a story that they grow to love and are very familiar with.
I am hoping to instill a great love of reading in my students.
To do this, I am also requesting Time for Kids and Scholastic News magazines because I feel like it is so important for the students to learn about current events and different advances in science. The students are always so interested in those magazines and are excited to read them so they can learn something new.
I have just moved to first grade from another grade so I have been busy creating centers for the students to use in both ELA and math. I would love to get more laminating sheets so that these centers will hold up throughout the years and will be beneficial to hundreds of students, not just last through one school year.
In addition to the laminating sheets, I also need a printer with ink in order to print all of the centers I need for my students.
I feel like it is so important for first graders to build and create things so keep their imaginations alive and foster creativity. With the Magna tiles, students will have the opportunity to build with them and work together collaboratively to see what they can create.
I love using whiteboards in my class, especially in math, to see what my students are able to do in that moment without making copies for each problem. My class needs more whiteboards to be able to use
