My Students

Our school is located on the boundary between Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes. We have over 700 students in grades Pre-K to 4th grade, 28 of which I can call mine. My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Income level for many are low, and families do not venture too far from this rural, close-knit community.

I have students eager to learn new things and go new places.

I see this when I read to them. They beg to see the pictures and ask to borrow the book to read for themselves. Unfortunately, whole class discussions are limited due to the fact that there aren't enough books to go around. Being surrounded by good literature can open up a world of possibilities for the leaders of tomorrow - my students.

My Project

My classroom population is a gumbo pot of students from varying interests, backgrounds, and achievement levels. Many of my students are from low income families and do not have easy access to books. Class sets of The Magic Trap and The Bell Bandit will give my students time to enjoy and connect to the reading experiences and offer them chances to explore new worlds, learn new things, and connect to new ideas.

When I look around my classroom, I see the future - the leaders of tomorrow.

Through literature, they can discover the ideas that may shape and guide them into who they want to be.
