This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

LSMCE is a charter school adding a sixth grade class for the 2018-2019 school year. I have been chosen to teach English Language Arts and Reading to this brand new class of 6th graders. This urban school is like a family and it’s students are so precious. One thing our campus does not have is a library and my new classroom is devoid of novels for reading aloud or independently. We need books for independent reading and class sets for literary circles. Help us bridge access to books for our classroom library to transform our readers to leaders.

My Project

Research shows that students who are read to and who read independently are more likely to graduate from high school. Having access to a classroom library with relevant literature will engage them more fully in their own academic development. The lessons learned from these classics are ones that will stay with my students forever. I want my readers of today to be my leaders of tomorrow. Through Donors Choose we can begin building the classroom library for each student to have access to several titles throughout the school year. I plan to use literary circles and read alouds in class daily.
