Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second grade teacher at Chicago International Charter School - Bucktown Campus. I teach 27 second graders who are becoming great readers! It is very rewarding to observe students master letters and sounds, and blend these sounds into words. Although they can read all of the words, many of my students have difficulty learning to read with fluency and expression. I would like to use Reader's Theater in my classroom by incorporating it into our reading program. Reader's Theater will encourage my students to focus not only on the pronunciation of words, but the voice, tone, and expression in which they read. The students in my classroom will benefit from using Reader's Theater by using the scripts to practice using voice and expression in their reading. My students will be very excited to "perform" and will be engaged in reading while building their fluency skills!
