This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school's motto is, "It's not how you start that matters, but how you finish." I expect all of my students to make substantial learning gains in reading.
My 1st grade students come from diverse backgrounds.
Most of my students receive free or reduce lunch. Our school is in a high poverty area in Florida. They are learning new reading skills. They are eager first graders wanting to become independent readers.
My Project
Reader's Theater will assist in preparing my students to become successful readers. Reader's Theater will build fluency, expression and reading comprehension. Through Reader's Theater, my students will gain the ability to read text accurately and quickly. Therefore, they will be able to respond to reading with expression and comprehension. My students need 4 microphones and Reader's Theater scripts boxes.
Reader's Theater empowers students with oral reading fluency, public speaking, group interaction and so much more.
Given the opportunity of learning reading through Reader's Theater, my students will develop into successful independent readers.
