My students need Ready-To-Go! Independent Math Activities, Building Fluency Card Bank, one Classroom Magnetic Letters Kit, Readers' Theater Script boxes, and See-Me Privacy Partitions.
Much like the endless variety of books in my classroom, my students are all different. Independent, strong, thoughtful, kind, caring, bold, shy, responsible, intelligent, diligent, respectful, musical, and brave are words I would use to describe the students I have the privilege of seeing daily!
The majority of students I work with come from low-income households.
In order to feed their brains, we must first feed their bodies. Our school system currently has 100% free breakfast and lunch for all students at my school. Regardless what time of day they arrive, my first question is often, "Have you eaten yet?" This year, I have made sure to stock snacks, and often pack a few backpacks with food from our pantry to go home. With that said, my students arrive each day ready to learn, and eager for more knowledge! Just like we feed their bodies, I make sure to have high interest materials and activities in place to help feed their brains. My 13 students inspire and awe me daily, and the 45 I see on a rotating basis for reading groups remind me daily why I couldn't imagine doing anything else besides being their teacher. Our school has three goals: be respectful, be responsible, and be kind; my students have risen to the challenge, and work to the best of their ability in all areas.
In order to provide quality classroom materials, I often look to my own personal budget to supply and stock supplies. This year, I built a listening library, stocked hundreds of books into my class library, purchased manipulative for math, and crowd-sourced clothing, basic supplies, and other items for my students.
My Project
These requested Ready-To-Go! Independent Math Activities, Building Fluency Card Bank, Classroom Magnetic Letters and Readers' Theater Script boxes will meet specific needs and developmental areas for my students and are quality materials for varied levels of instruction. They contain interactive tools for the students to use independently. The See-Me Privacy Partitions will help distracted learners focus on their own papers,
My students love readers theater, but finding scripts at a 'just right' level to span K-2 reading levels can be a challenge. Turn-taking, working with peers, and learning to work with distractions around them, are all skills that will be vital in their future education and life. With these supplies, my students will build critical skills in reading, math, and social areas.
One of the most important skills to develop, in addition to the emphasis in early education of building life-long social skills, is the early emphasis placed on reading education.
By creating an environment where students are excited to work collaboratively together, while still focusing on literacy, I can help make lessons even more meaningful. Every opportunity I have to bring a new book or new learning tool into the classroom, we celebrate as a class. This gift will be treasured in our room!
