"We are readers" is what the kindergarten students in our classroom say each day. However, finding books at their reading level is not so easy. They need books that provide just enough challenge and are interesting to practice their newly discovered reading skills at home.
Our classroom is filled with eager learners who identify themselves as readers, writers, and mathematicians.
They come from diverse backgrounds and families. Our classroom is comprised of 26 students in which 9 of the students are English Language Learners. Our school's free-reduced lunch rate is 56%. We are a public school in the state of Washington.
My Project
By having books that they can take home to practice their reading, the students will not only increase their reading levels, but their enjoyment of books will grow as well. The parents will become more involved in their child's education as they sit down to listen to their child's new found skill of reading. As the families enjoy the books together, they will model to each other the importance of reading and hopefully this will blossom into a life long desire to read and enjoyment of books.
This donation will provide the gift of reading to my students.
Many of them do not have books in their homes that are accessible, in terms of level, for them to read. By being able to practice on a daily basis, the students will further increase their skills and love of reading.
