My Students

My students are funny, brilliant, and love school despite our current circumstances. They have spent most of their school career in the midst of distance learning, yet they have adapted, continuing to show up and be present for class. A lot of their personality has a chance to shine during reading time, when we are making inferences and discussing the book.

They are creative, playful, and supportive of one another, in spite of the struggles of distance learning.

It is difficult to foster a learning relationship online, but my students meet me halfway. I get to learn a little more about them each day. In the past few months, as we have all gotten more comfortable with each other, I can see their growth. Students that usually have their cameras off and only respond in the chat now have their cameras on are actively participating, wanting to share their thoughts and stories.

My Project

Our school and public library are closed during the pandemic. Students have very few books they could use at home. Studies have shown that students need to be surrounded by a lot of books to build their vocabulary and practice critical thinking. Therefore, I would like to send as many books to their students as I can.

The Elephant and Piggie book sets will help the students gain the love for reading, enhance critical thinking, develop concentration, and boost imagination.

Students will love their new set and it will help them progress in reading.
