My school is an elementary school serving about 800 students. They come from many different backgrounds and languages. They love school and love to read. My class consists of students who are reading well below grade level to advanced.
"That's the thing about books; they let you travel without moving your feet."
Many of our students have never ventured outside of their community much less our state. Books are an opportunity for them to travel and use their imaginations.
My students love for me to read aloud to them. Please help them to explore our world and become better readers and writers by giving them more classroom books.
My Project
Do you remember the excitement each day when you were given the opportunity to pull out a book, get comfortable, and read? Our students get that same opportunity each and every day during reading workshop. However, our classroom libraries need your support. We need a variety of texts that cover different genres, levels, and topics for our students. Every day during reading workshop the students are taught a mini-lesson as a whole group. Then they are given plenty of time to engage independently in reading a variety of texts while the teacher conferences one-on-one or with small groups.
Having a variety of texts to read during reading workshop is imperative to helping our students grow as readers and writers.
The texts requested within this project were handpicked to meet the needs of the students within our classroom, their levels, and their interests. With your support, our students will have a variety of books to choose from on a daily basis to meet their needs as they grow as readers.
