This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
All of our school population receives free and reduced-price lunches (Title I) and my children come from a high-poverty background. Many of my students come to school anxious, upset, sad, and worried. I try to make my classroom a safe haven for them to be children and nothing more.
My students are kind, loving and adore learning with their whole hearts.
When you walk into our room you will hear a gentle hum of learning with a side of laughter and fun.
My Project
My students love to read! We have a blossoming classroom library and students read dozens of books a day. But at home? Most of my students do not have access to any books at their own homes. Research shows that students that read more at home have better success in their academic life. I would like to give each child a take home file folder that they can fill with just right books each week. Students will be able to take these books home and read them to themselves, siblings and alongside parents.
Reading is a gift, one that should not be kept only within the school walls!
