Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love teaching at my small rural school, my students are amazing and so resilient. They come to school every day ready to learn. My students don't get to go and experience many places outside their community so I try to bring in books and tangible items from different areas. I bring in many of the supplies myself.
The look of amazement on their faces when they see new things makes it worth it.
My school is a Title One school where 70% of the students are English Language Learners and 90% are at or below poverty level.
My Project
The books I have chosen are picked by the state of Florida for young readers. My students need a rich classroom library to foster their love of reading. Some of the great books I have chosen are Wish, The Great Tree house War, and the Ark Plan.
These books will give them a chance to experience great literature and hopefully take them on a fantastic journey.
Some of the other books I have chosen are the Who Was, What is, and Where is series. These nonfiction books capture the student, especially the reluctant reader. Students at my school are eager to learn and need the opportunity to be exposed to these amazing books.
