Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My incredibly hard-working students are ready to read! We represent a small diverse elementary school tucked away on the southwest side of Chicago. My students are English Language Learners and have some difficulties learning to read. The social-emotional needs of my students often require small group instruction where the interventions are targeted at their level. The students I work with range from Kindergarten to grade 4. My students are eager to learn to read and we can't wait to get started!
My Project
The reading materials I am in need of will benefit my students' lives in the long and short run! Scholastic Leveled Reading books will support my students from the starting point to the point in which they develop into fluent, confident readers. By using a leveled reading system, I will be able to help students become stronger readers. After extensive research using Fountas and Pinnell as my starting point, I am confident this teaching and learning tool will fit well into our Balanced literacy model. Good readers choose books that are a good fit for them. What better way to introduce how to do this than using a leveled literacy system. The books would be used for small guided reading groups each day, 3 times per day, for 20-minute rotations.
