This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things that you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!"
This couldn't be more true for my students. This rug will give them a place to relax and fall into a good book.
My students are third graders from an urban area in Missouri.
They attend a large school, where learning is the highest priority. They enjoy reading in the reading center chairs, but would love a place to stretch out and read for a long period of time.
My Project
My students struggle with the motivation to read for pleasure. They love to grab a book from the shelf and read in the chairs in my reading center, but often want to sit on the floor to explore more books. I don't have a rug in my room that will allow them to do this. We need a rug that will allow them the privacy and comfort of really diving into a good book. This would also give me the space to share lessons and read with them on the carpet.
This donation would make a difference for my children because it can improve their reading habits and really make them want to read.
When they read more books, they learn more and improve their abilities to grow as a reader.
