Ms. McKinney from Baton Rouge LA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students books to fill the shelves in our library! This request includes bestsellers, requests from students and some fan favorites!

We are finishing our third school year in the heart of Louisiana. Our school is located in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. Our school has been number one in growth among open enrollment schools in the city of Baton Rouge for the second year in a row. This is because of our intense focus on reading growth and investment. We are currently working to build a school that has all of the resources that students deserve. Our students are special because they do whatever it takes to get to success. One special moment that sticks out to me is seeing the joy on students faces as they run up to me and show me how much they’ve grown in reading. It also warms my heart when students run up to me in the hallway in between classes to tell me about their book or to get a new one.
We have built a library through this site and we are striving to develop it even more.
Our students deserve to have a world-class library and this site will help us get there!
We always love getting more books for our library, but this time we added some special prizes so kids can celebrate their love of reading with bookmarks, stickers, stamps and more!
I want to create a space for kids that is similar to a reading oasis.
Kids can come sit on comfy chairs while reading, create a cool new customized bookmark, or discuss a new book series with their friends.
There are so many possibilities when kids grow a love for reading and I want to help them get there with some fresh book titles and some dolphin swag to match!
These materials will help to create a space where kids think of reading as an exciting activity. I plan to use the lessons that kids can learn from a book like “Slay” that will help them learn how to use their voices to inspire change and to help them see the beauty in learning to love all of their identities. I’ll also teach them how fiction can be inspired by real life through the book “Allegedly” and walk them through the lessons you can learn by studying someone else’s path to success.
