My students need books to read during choice time. Books like "The Wild Robot", "Patina", and "Raid of No Return" will give them rich options to expand their worlds.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a reading intervention teacher in a low-income, mostly Spanish-speaking community. My students are often 2 or more years behind in reading; however, they show up every day ready to work hard and reach their goals.
It is an honor to work with these kiddos on their journey to becoming readers.
Watching a student go from learning to read to reading to learn is such a great reward. The biggest reward though is seeing my students lost in books they love to read.
My school is a Title 1 school located in Austin. We believe that all students can achieve regardless of home lives or external factors as long as we are doing our job as educators. Everyone at our school works with a common goal of enriching the lives of our students. We truly believe that a great education is the key to success later in life. My students come from mostly low-income, Spanish speaking families. They are hard-working, goofy, and loving kiddos who have huge dreams of someday going to college.
My Project
Having these books in our classroom library will greatly increase the choices my students have while reading. Much research supports the idea that readers are more engaged and enjoy reading more when they are able to choose their own books.
So imagine my sadness when students come up to me and tell me that none of the books in our classroom library appeal to them.
I believe that it is my job as a reading teacher to have engaging material for each of my students. As such, each book included in this project was chosen by a student in my class.
I want to ensure that there is a book for every child in my library. Your generous donation will help me do just that.
