"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book." —Frank Serafini.
It's always been my belief that books are treasures that are left to be discovered, and I want to instill a love for reading in my students.
Each one touches your soul in its own unique way that transforms you even for a moment into anything or anyone you've dreamed of becoming. No matter what the story entails, there's much to discover, learn and take away from. My students represent a range of cultures, socioeconomic groups, and learning abilities. Some already love reading while others dread it. I need literature in my classroom to reach all of them at the same time and get them excited about coming to school each day to find out what happens next to the characters in the story.
As we read through the different perspectives of the characters, students will learn the importance of having courage, standing up for what you believe in, and supporting others in times of need. This class set will allow each of my students to have a copy to follow along and reference while we navigate through this well written book on CD and allow my entire class to experience this story and discuss it in depth. We will be discussing the book in guided literature circle discussions and activities, vocabulary enrichment, reading comprehension questions, and writing assignments that will give the students a richer appreciation for reading and learning. I chose this novel to build character traits within my students to give them a better understanding of themselves and an acceptance and tolerance of others’ differences. Because of Mr. Terupt will help teach my students many important life lessons as they turn through the pages.
With your help, I can bring books to life in my classroom!
As a teacher, I strive to bridge the reading gap for my students and enhance their enjoyment of reading. I want my students to be lifelong readers. These books will be shared with my students for years to come.
