I will teach close to 20 first graders this school year. These children are a diverse group of learners with many interests. My students are growing into life long readers. They are excited to learn and cannot get enough of fun, relatable books!
Every year, I am excited to see how my students grow as readers and writers!
It is imperative for children to have a rich classroom library in order to develop as readers. We need lots of books!
My Project
First grade is a great year for reading. The children come in as emergent readers and leave as independent readers. They need lots of books in their classroom! One of the best ways to engage students and teach reading skills and strategies is through read aloud texts.
Read aloud books allow teachers to model fluent reading as well as teach skills and strategies to the students.
Students are able to lose themselves in the story, giving them opportunities to think critically and participate in active discussions that are rich in content. Read-alouds can reach a variety of academic levels in the classroom.
