I teach a very diverse student population, which makes my job that much more exciting. My students are all tenth graders and range greatly in their cultural, racial, academic, and financial background.
Each one of my students has something amazing to offer.
Unfortunately, family circumstances and harsh realities outside of the classroom often impede what these bright students can achieve.
The best part of my day is the personal connection that I get to build with my current and past students. It is so sad, yet so rewarding, to see them graduate!
My Project
Many of my students do not read outside of school. I would love for my students to develop the love of reading for pleasure. Unfortunately, their phones have become their main means of communication; their main reading and writing tool.
I would like to help them discover the pleasures of writing something meaningful; something that they can be proud of.
With the new materials, I plan to implement reading and writing prompt activities in addition to the novels we are currently reading. I want to help them transfer their newly acquired reading and writing skills to other classes as well as their lives beyond the high school.
