I am fortunate to work with a district whose vision and mission is "whatever it takes for every child...". I truly believe that every child deserves the right to a quality education and opportunities to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. In order for my students to receive a quality education they need access to various resources. These resources may change throughout the year depending on their needs.
The majority of my students are considered low income and may not necessarily have access to reading materials outside of school.
My hope with this project is to provide them with hands on experiences in the classroom as well as magazines for them to create their own libraries at home.
My Project
A child who reads will become an adult who thinks. In today's world, I think it is imperative we teach our children to be thoughtful. As Dr. Seuss once said "The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW. The more that you LEARN, the more PLACES you'll go!"
Learning to read empowers children.
I want to ensure that my children have the resources necessary to become successful readers. The Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs will be used with my current phonic instruction to provide another multi-sensory experience. Let's Find Out: My Rebus Readers will be used during guided reading groups to address various Social Studies and Science topics. Finally, the Let's Find Out: Weekly Magazine will be used during whole group and then sent home for the students to keep and reread at home.
