Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"You will be transformed by what you read," Deepak Chopra said, and every book read by my students is a step towards the transformation of a child into a more skilled reader. Their reading skills are key to success through the rest of their academic career.
Our class motto is, "Knowledge is your most valuable possession that no one can ever take from you." My students live by that motto and work towards making themselves rich with knowledge daily.
My students are diverse and face challenges. Many are below grade level in reading. Our goal is to achieve a year and a half of reading growth in a year to put them in the position to be competitive with students who may not face the same types of challenges. If you met them, you would not immediately know the issues they face because they are so positive and motivated in spite of it all. I couldn't be more proud to be their teacher and feel honored to support their academic success.
My Project
I have requested books of varying levels to support the range of learners in my room. These books will take them to new places and allow them to enrich curricular knowledge through the reading of these texts. Many of them explore topics aligned with the Common Core State Standards in an exciting and fun way that will pique my students' interest.

It is proven that strong readers are able to convert their well-read knowledge to many subject areas. These books will enrich my students' learning experience and motivate them to keep on reading!
