Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Always an engaging unit with the right tools! Last year, my Holocaust unit was the most successful because I had the right books, dvds, and non-fiction articles. This year I am at a new school with fewer resources and money. I would love to repeat my holocaust unit with students but I lack resources
My students are incredibility motivated to learn!
They truly value their education. They often show up before and after school for extra support and guidance. They are happy to be in the USA and happy to have the opportunity to learn English. My students come from countries all over the world and have often escaped war and turmoil in their native countries. Our classroom community embraces a spirit of overcoming adversity, understanding history to change history, and valuing the opportunity and responsibility of education.. We are a large urban school and proud of our hard work. Our resources are few and are reduced every school year. My students would genuinely appreciate your support and would not waste this learning opportunity!
My Project
Any time we read a book with a historical theme it is important to build background knowledge and provide vocabulary through visuals. Additionally, when teaching history it is important to identify and experience multiple perspectives. The materials I have requested allow my students a variety of learning experiences through multiple modalities that encourage critical thinking. My students will read, write, think, talk, and view throughout this unit as they engage in higher level thinking and express this thinking through conversation, written analysis, artwork, and reflection journals. Thank you for your support. We are all so grateful for our learning.
History and the ability to think as a historian are critical in the development of a teenage mind.
I have always found that the units I have planned on the holocaust have been highly engaging for students and have encouraged students to explore further study independently. My students will be working on building academic vocabulary in this unit as well as developing critical thought and analysis in the forms on reflection journals, Socratic circles, artistic expression, and literary analysis.
