My Students

I am lucky to have a variety of students from many different backgrounds and cultures. My students are bright, kind and active. Their interests vary from art to reading, from sports to volunteering. Eighty-five percent of my students come from families that live well below the poverty line. All of my students have such a ferocious appetite for learning and it is inspiring!

Probably the most remarkable quality about this group of kids is how kind they are to one another.

They treat teachers and each other with great respect and care. They don't take their education for granted and are grateful to be at school everyday. I am equally as grateful to be able to teach them.

One of my most favorite moments, with these students, is watching the joy and excitement spread across their faces when I bring in new books for them to read. I listen to their interests and pay attention to the things they tell me they like, then I research books to buy for them. Every child deserves to have books to read! They are so incredibly responsible and careful with our books and always return them in great shape.

My Project

I strive to create an environment that students feel supported and successful as well as challenged. Every day I read to my students and they relish this time. They are curious, intelligent and inquisitive. However, we do not have a library, making it difficult to supply books at my student's appropriate reading levels.

These books will provide my students with the opportunity to read independently, about things that interest them, at their specific reading levels.

This will engage them in becoming better readers and give them the confidence they need to succeed. These are books that I have specifically picked based on my student's interests and reading levels. They will empower them to not only read well but also enjoy reading!

Books open doors, imaginations and futures! These kids love books. This is the excitement I want to continue all year long, these books will help us do exactly that. Research shows us that students are more inclined to read if they can read things that interest them and is at their appropriate reading level, these books will be exactly what they need to start their lifetime journey into reading.

Thank you so much for your time! Have a wonderful day!
