This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Typically my students have a difficult time understanding And relating to a novel. Both books I have chosen are about children their age in special education.
The printer will allow my students to print their essays from the iPad, last year we could not print them.
My students are middle school students in a pull out special education class.
They are often embarrassed about being in the class and do not quite understand why they don't "get it." Their academic insecurities often lead to behavior that takes the focus off their areas of academic weakness. I try to let them know the tools I am giving them will help them be successful in high-school. Most of them buy in to the various programs to help them improve.
My Project
My hope is that the novels will be relatable and of interest to the students so they will be engaged and willing to learn and practice the strategies good readers use to comprehend.
The printer will make it possible for my students to get their essays off the iPad. Last year we used iPads which made my reluctant writers willing to participate. However we were unable to print their work.
Being able to print their finished projects will encourage my students to keep trying to write.
Reading books that tell of students they can relate to, being successful will hopefully let them know they can also be successful.
