This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a place where our children feel safe and loved in a neighborhood with high crime and violence. Most children do not have enough money to have any sort of library at home, purchase school supplies, and are provided two to three meals a day. A majority of students are at school from 7 AM to almost 7 PM. Our school provides a safe environment past the school hours, to ensure our students are getting the best care and education possible.
Despite the hardships they endure, they are upbeat, motivated learners, who will someday become leaders of our California community.
My Project
In a digital world, I think it is important for students to still have books in their hand. Class sets of books allows them have a tangible item in their hands to follow along.
Money is scarce in public education and a lot of times it falls on the teacher; I try to do my best to provide what is best for students.
Funds are usually spend on digital opportunities due to sustainability. However, class sets of books are hard to come across. I want my students to have a great year where learning is fun and reading becomes a passion.
