Help me give my students a wide variety of books and magazines for our classroom library so that we can explore new places and meet diverse people without leaving our classroom!
I love teaching fifth graders! They are always full of excitement for learning. Our school has an astounding support system composed of parents, teachers, and administrators. We all have one thing in common, that is, to help each and every student that comes through our doors to be successful.
I believe fifth grade is a transitional year for students in our school district located in a small town in Southeast Missouri.
In our district, fifth graders are transitioning from lower elementary to middle school. Fifth graders are the “top dogs” in our building, allowing them to be full of confidence and leadership. The students in my classroom have different socioeconomic backgrounds, a variety of background knowledge to build upon, and various individual needs that I will need to meet on a daily basis. I believe the resources included in this project will help me reach my students’ diversity.
My Project
My students have just returned to school after an extended break due to the current pandemic. We are all eager to learn about new people and places while practicing a wide variety of safety protocols. Students are limited as to when they can visit the school library. Therefore, I want to be able to offer a wide variety of books in our classroom library.
I believe the books and magazines I have chosen to add to my classroom library through this project will allow students to increase their reading abilities while traveling to faraway destinations and meeting inspirational people.
With these new books, I will be able to provide my students with books on a variety of reading levels that allow them to read independently at their own grade level. They will also be able to choose books that interest them and take them on adventures without leaving the classroom.
