My Students

I spend most of my day helping middle school students develop and build the reading skills necessary to be successful in their classrooms and in the world. By middle school, if you're a struggling reader you are often also a reluctant reader. So, my goal is to help the students find enough success to hopefully develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for reading that they can take into high school and beyond!

Did you know that a student who reads an extra 20 minutes per day often scores in the 90th percentile on standardized tests?

Many of my students have become so frustrated with reading that 20 minutes can seem like hours. Changing their attitude toward reading will help them in ways that they don't yet understand!

My Project

As reluctant readers, my students need exciting and interesting materials to reel them in. Scholastic Action Magazine provides content they will want to read at level they can understand.

There's nothing worse than trying to read a story or article that's too difficult to understand.

This is something my students struggle with daily. Scholastic Action Magazine includes engaging content that is differentiated to meet my students' reading needs. "I don't get it," will be a thing of the past when my students are reading stories and articles at their own level. I plan to use Action to build reading skills by reading timely and engaging stories on a weekly basis!
