My Students
This year I have a great class of 5th-grade students. We are a Title I school. I have 30, 5th-grade students. We are located in a small town, and some students have limited experience beyond our local area.
I want to make their experience this year full of diverse learning opportunities, so they can see how much the world has to offer them. I want to make the last year of elementary school a memorable experience for these students.
My Project
Reading is the key to knowledge. I want to inspire in my students the love of reading. So many students have never read a chapter book. I challenge my students to read a chapter book every two weeks.
I like to entice my students to read by offering a variety of choices at their own reading level. This can be a challenge when in a 5th-grade class reading levels can vary from early 2nd grade to 6th grade and beyond. Lower-level books can be particularly challenging to find for 5th-grade readers. The Judy Moody series, Stink, My Weirdest School, and the others are titles kids love. I hope that these books will strike a note with my students and encourage them to read more often.
