This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative, resourceful, and resilient! Our school is a Title I school where 100% of students qualify for free lunch. We have a very diverse school population with many of my students being recent immigrants and English language learners. As kindergarten is often the first school experience for many of them, they have a wide range of abilities, goals, and interests. However, they are all very eager and willing to learn and try new things. I am moving from 2nd grade down to kindergarten so these new, younger faces will be an extra adventure.
My Project
Every day my students will participate in "small group time" which includes rotations of groups at different stations. This is a chance for me as a teacher to meet with my students in a smaller group to better be able to work on individual needs. During this time, the other students not working with me also need to stay engaged and be working on important tasks. This can be particularly tricky in younger grades as the littlest learners often need some assistance (especially with reading.)
My hope with this project is to give my students an extra tool to help them succeed and better their reading skills.
These Kindle Fires and headphones would be rotated through the students so they are able to practice reading on a higher level than they can do independently.
