Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching bilingual students is a blessing in disguise! Our students are Spanish speaking students that are in the process of learning the English language. They are all very hard working students that are eager to learn more academic content as well as the English language. These amazing kids live in the diverse surrounding neighborhoods near the school. Our school population has a high percentage of kids on free or reduced lunch, and serves a diverse community of monolingual and bilingual students.
My Project
My students would greatly benefit from having this Spanish reading recovery book set. While our students come from various backgrounds, reading can be difficult for any child. This set of books would greatly target students that have reading difficulties such as: decoding, reading comprehension, dyslexia, or a lack of reading opportunities.
Reading is a vital skill to have as it is needed in order to succeed in all subject matters.
Second grade is one of the primary years, where learning to read is one of the main focuses. Reading difficulties can be overcome with precise reading instruction and focused skill teaching. This set of Spanish reading recovery readers are used exactly for this purpose.
Any Spanish speaking struggling reader would benefit from using the reading recovery book set. Learning to read can be challenging, but with the right materials, kids can be successful. Thank you for your consideration in funding my project!
