My classroom is special because I have many students from a variety of cultures. Throughout the year, they have learned to embrace, and accept each other. Their languages and idiosyncrasies make us laugh, and educate us at the same time. They are united by the fact that they all want to learn English and to assimilate into the American Culture.
Things that excite me about teaching range from the academic progress students make throughout the year, their happiness when they succeed, and all the silly things they say that make me laugh.
I should write a book!
My Project
The objective of the training I've requested is to learn to incorporate the five components essential to a effective reading into my daily lesson plans. Phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, are all necessary to successful reading mastery.
The Orton-Gillingham approach is a methodology that focuses on explicit, direct instruction that is sequential, structured, and multi-sensory.
I teach in English Language Learners, that are at a variety of English Language Acquisition. Consequently, I need to differentiate their instruction by providing work and instruction that will meet their specific needs. My goal in taking this course is to learn strategies that will allow me to help my students acquire English proficiency in a variety of ways.
