This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My bilingual students come from mostly low income households where English is not their native language, but, even so, they are eager and motivated to learn every day.
I believe that, with the right tools, my students can achieve much higher goals than they thought possible. My students love learning so much most are reading at or above grade level. My students love reading by themselves and to their peers. Unfortunately, at home they do not always have the support they need or books to read.
My Project
Students learn the best when they are challenged. However, it is also important not to have material so out of reach that it seems impossible to master. This is where leveled reading material is key to success.
Students make the most progress when they have material at the appropriate reading level. My project for leveled books in Spanish covers reading levels from 6 to 18 to ensure I have something for students at all levels of proficiency. Each level has multiples of the same book to allow working in groups as well as letting students borrow books so they can read outside of class.
This is the first year my campus has bilingual classes. This means there is no bilingual book room with resources for teachers or students. My class will really benefit from having guided reading sets of books to keep all my students engaged and challenged on their literacy journey.
