This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom immerses low-income students into the challenging world of reading and writing. My goal is to ignite a passion for learning in a neighborhood where many struggle to succeed.
My fourth grade students inspire me to be a better person.
Coming from diverse backgrounds, they unite under one roof to create a family of learners. While their lives are tough, my students come to school each day ready to explore the unknown through reading, and to create new worlds through their writing. My students amaze me every day!
My Project
Groans and grumbles are often heard in classrooms. Sometimes these come when students are asked to take out their books and read. However, I want my students to grumble and groan when it is time to put their books away.
"Do we have to stop reading?" is a statement that makes my teacher heart leap for joy!
By updating my classroom library and filling it with engaging, relevant texts, it is my hope that the fourth graders I teach will beg for more reading time. Creating a love of reading within each student will set them up for a lifetime of success.
