Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students work so hard and very motivated to learn. I would love to give them some of the experiences you deserve. They need to hear stories read aloud so that they develop fluency and expression, and I am lacking these resources.
My students rarely have parent support at home.
They love to hear stories read to them. I am often the only source for story telling. They love hearing stories and talking about them. We are teaching students to retell them to their friends. Our students are low income and at risk for dropping out. I never perceive them this way. I see my students as achievers. I will always believe that they going to succeed. Our families are hard workers who do what they need to provide for their families. Often they have little time to support their children in school.
My Project
Students will have a great time using this resources during center time everyday. About 8-12 students will have a turn to use these everyday. I have purchased lots of books on CD for them to listen to. They will learn the characteristics of story telling and how readers read with expression. Students love being told stories so I am confident they are going to love hearing books on CD.
Students will be exposed to more literature since they will have the choice and opportunity to read along and listen to different types of books.
They will experience story telling and will be able improve their comprehension by applying different strategies for summarizing.
