Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area. Many students are English Language Learners and need experience with language. They may not have many opportunities at home after school or on weekends to practice their English skills.
All of the students at the school qualify for free lunches.
Many come to school hungry and tired because their families are concerned with affording day to day necessities. The school is a safe haven for many students. They need to create good working habits in order to succeed in the future!
My Project
My Kindergarten and 1st grade students need to hear the reading of good literature over and over again. They need an example of what reading should sound like. I can read a book to the whole class, and then groups can listen to this same book at a listening center.
My students are learning how to read and to be literate in English as a second language at the same time.
The students need repeated readings of good literature in order to know what reading should sound like.
With a listening center, students will have the opportunity to repeatedly listen to their favorite read aloud books, and practice along with the reading.
