My students need rich authentic texts that they can read to learn about science while they are developing good reading and thinking skills. They will read about people who used science to change the world.
I have the most inquisitive students! They come to school ready to learn new things. They walk into the classroom and the first thing they ask every morning is, "What are we learning today?"
My school is a Title One school with 100% students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
Many of our students receive weekend backpacks of food. Our students are a diverse population including ELL learners and special needs students. Most have limited access to print materials like books or magazines and a few have computer access at home. Despite the challenges they face, they come to school ready to learn.
My Project
I am requesting Picture-Perfect Science lessons and the books that go with it in order to integrate science and reading. Students will read to increase their reading skills as well as build background knowledge of science concepts.
Students need opportunities to read about science as well as complete experiments through the scientific process.
My students will read these books to synthesize and evaluate information to form conclusions which support our reading standards. Peer groups will complete science experiments with provided materials to experience and prove what they have read which supports our Science standards. These books will allow me to teach Reading and Science at the same time!
