We work with students who come from a variety of living situations, mostly high needs in terms of economics. Many come in not for an education, but for love and a safe place.
Our students want what we all do - a safe home, good friends, good health, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to make a difference in the world.
All of my students are 21st-century learners who embrace learning in new ways and taking on any challenge. They are hungry to learn more about the world around them. Having a variety of diverse literature is one way to challenge their thinking and bring their writing to new heights.
My students are constantly growing as readers and have loved requesting high-interest books on their level. They have received several hundred books as a result of our student-led DonorsChoose projects this year alone. As incredible as this feat is, we have run out of room in our classroom to hold all of these amazing books.
My students need a place to organize and house all of these new books in our growing classroom library.
My students are constantly keeping a wish list of books we would like to add to our classroom library, so this would ensure that we not only have room for our current books but also room to add future books as well.
