My Students

I teach in a very large school in a growing town. We currently have seven classes in second grade. Many of the students at my school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The cultural population, like that of many schools in Hawaii, is very diverse.

My students are super awesome second graders.

They are excited to be in school, and they love to learn and grow. I would love to offer them new and exciting materials, manipulatives and learning spaces to keep the spark alive.

My Project

The Scholastic News that I am requesting for will help my students get updated science and social studies information. These weekly news readers are the perfect addition to my science and social studies curriculum.

These materials will help to make science interesting by providing current information and interesting science topics.

The current science textbooks that I have in my classroom are sightly outdated, which makes it hard to connect to the material.

Finally these materials will give my students much need access to non-fiction text. The students will be able to take home the reader after we are finished in class. This will allow them to share what they are learning in school with their family at home.
