Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of the upcoming movies the students are interested in seeing are adapted from novels and comics.
A snapshot of our middle school shows a diverse high-need school comprised of about 1,100 students in grades six to eight.
Half of our student population receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. The students have all been impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
My Project
The students need to read the novels and comics that the studios create into movies. I want them to cast the movie in their mind and create the characters in the images portrayed in the novel rather than the screen adaptation. I want my student to be able to critique the movie with the knowledge of what the author wrote in the book. We have done this for other books like Twilight and Hunger Games, prior to the release of the movie and the children really get into it.
Help us to have the books in our school that the kids are asking for and look forward to reading before the movie comes out.
Help encourage my students to read more and question what they see and read.
