Our school is located in northeast Florida. We are a high school with grades nine to twelve. Our school has almost twenty-four hundred students. These kids are good children who work to achieve and not only meet, but surpass expectations that are placed upon them with all the rigor that is involved in education.
I am blessed to teach almost one hundred fifty, 12th grade students in English 4, as well as grades 9-12 in Speech.
These young men and young women are such hard working people. We spend forty five minutes a day focusing on English and learning to decipher Literature using their own perspective. They are working hard at writing and delivering speeches in front of their peers, which is quite the daunting task.
To know these kids is to love them, and by knowing them, you gain a new perspective on life through the eyes of a teen.
Teaching high school English as well as public speaking can be a daunting task. There is so much in the world that is in direct competition with education.
By putting kindles fires in the hands of my students, I am putting technology in their hands and bringing learning to life.
These kindle fires will allow my classroom to have a class set of novels so that we can all read together. They will enable my speech students to see and hear speeches given throughout history. All of my students, English and Speech, will be able to read and work at their own pace. They can have headphones in class and have books read to them. They can rewind and reread or rewatch as necessary.
I want my students to feel successful and this is a step in the right direction.
