My Students

My students are fifth graders who attend a K-5 elementary school in the city. Our students face challenges that many can't imagine, but they don't allow their circumstances to define them and neither do I! My classes are full of students from various backgrounds, including many who are dual language learners. I love how the students come in each day sharing a part of their world with me. Sometimes, we're discussing their weekend activities, other times it's what they want to do to change the world. One thing I know for sure is that our classroom is an integral part of their world. All of my students are champions who are capable of excelling at whatever they set their minds to!

It is my hope that our classroom is a safe space where everyone feels welcome.

My Project

Reading books aloud to my students is such an important part of our day. Despite being 5th graders anxiously waiting to move on to middle school, the students enjoy listening to the picture books as much as I enjoy reading them. Students are never to old to enjoy a good book. I have carefully curated a selection of text that I hope inspires my students in multiple ways. Our district is starting the year with virtual instruction until February 2021. So I am also requesting a tripod to record the lesson to share on a closed platform with my students.

I'm excited about the adventures we'll share by reading these picture books.
