Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking and ALWAYS up for a reading challenge. This year, I want to BLOW up reader's workshop in such a way that will make a lasting impact on each one of my students as they prepare for 5th/6th grade -> college.
Students in my class are starting to set short and also long-range goals.
Many will become the first to graduate college, and I hope to build strong roots in literacy to help guide them there. Over the course of 14 years at my site, I do get former students who come back to visit me. Many share about their first semesters in college and attribute our school as being the foundation for their successes. This is what drives me as a teacher.
My Project
Our current library has seen a trickling of new books, but our school site still needs so much more! Students are currently into biographies and the use of these books will help students understand that former leaders that our country has had come in all races and gender. My goal is to provide literature that also links students to say, "I can relate to that story."
In addition, the non-fiction section in our classroom library could use some more of the requested titles.
Many of our students are interested in historical fiction and these would definitely be some of the top favorite titles.
