Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I campus. My students are struggling right now because they don't have the books that they need to succeed. Every day in my class, students would come in, select a book, and read for twenty minutes to improve their reading skills. The majority of the students that I teach are English language learners. So it's important that they continue with their reading habits. Right now, I'm doing online teaching, but many of them have to use a phone or share a Chromebook with siblings which makes it difficult for them to get their assignments done or to read books online. I would really appreciate your donation to buy books for them. Most do not own their own books, but love to read.
My Project
These books will help my students become better readers and will help expand their creativity and imagination. By reading, self chosen books, my students will engage and enjoy the books they are reading. The books in my list are books that my students chose to read. Some are in Spanish because many of my students still struggle to read in English and what I most desire is for them to enjoy what they read. Once they learn more English, all those skills learned in Spanish will transfer over to English.
