I teach at school that is a close-knit, supportive, community in a residential neighborhood in an urban city. My students are awesome joyful learners and great explorers. They are a diverse group of children from many different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Many of the kids spend the majority of the day at school, going to our After School Program for the afternoon. My students would benefit from some "soft" seating that is also easy to move around so they can find comfortable spaces in the classroom to read, read, read!
My Project
Who doesn't love a good book? And isn't that book even better when you have a comfortable place to read it? Well, the kid-sized couch, armchair, and floor cushions and chairs offer my first-grade students cozy and comfortable places within the classroom to curl up and read, read, read! These different seating options can be moved with ease, allowing the students to choose if they want to read sitting next to a friend or in their own space. They can also choose to sit closer to the windows, under our canopy, or at their tables. The floor seats and cushion give the students the option to lie down, stretch out on their side or back or sit up with back support. Now, who is ready to read, read, read!
