My 4th grade students come into my class ready and eager to learn. Even though they come from all income levels, they all have a desire to learn. They come to me from all income levels and abilities. I have several special needs students as well as English language learners. I have a very hands-on classroom where students are actively participating and learning all day. I closely align my teaching with the California State Common Core Standards and need necessary materials to make an engaging classroom. I provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Students learn from doing and experiencing and I provide that opportunity in my class. I am hopeful to inspire every learner to continue on a path of academic excellence. These books will allow my students to further their understanding and wondering minds.
My Project
Island of the Blue Dolphins is a story of a 12-year-old girl stranded on an island off the California coast. It is based on a true story. If funded, this project will allow each child to have their own Island of the Blue Dolphins book to read and annotate. They will be able to write in the margins and highlight what is important and specific to them. This book directly connects to our 4th-grade social studies common core curriculum. It will enable me to teach across subject levels and increase their reading level at the same time.
