Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to learn. Their loving families send them to school every day ready to collaborate, make mistakes, have fun, and work hard. Most of the students at our school qualify for the free lunch program, so their families cannot support the school financially.

I want to provide my students with meaningful, hands-on learning.

Since many students are English Language Learners, they must both master academic content and a new language. This means it is critical that every moment of the day supports deep conversations and academic language as well as content standards.

My Project

I am asking for a collection of excellent books to enrich our classroom library. Some of these books are favorite tales that we will read together, building our community of reading by sharing stories, growing ideas, and practicing comprehension skills. Others are "just right" books for independent and partner reading.

Readers don't just read, they share their thoughts, ask questions, make predictions, compare information, and connect ideas across texts.

The fiction and nonfiction books I have selected are perfect for giving my young readers a chance to do just that! They will explore text structures, compare stories and information books, and read to learn while they learn to read!
