My students need books in English and Spanish. They need books they can take home and share with their parents. They need a CD player and headphones for a listening center so they can listen to books and stories.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are preschool, special needs children. Many come from Spanish only homes and are language impaired. I work at a Title I/Renaissance school where 90% are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
Despite all these setbacks, my children are happy, inquisitive and love coming to school.
They love using the classroom computer to view the world outside their neighborhoods. They love books and listening to stories. They are very hands-on and need ways to access the world around them. Many of my students do not have access to books at home, and are often left in front of the television or given a phone to watch shows or play games on.
My Project
I want to have a listening center in my library center using the CD player and headphones so they can hear new stories and re-listen to old favorites. I want my students to be surrounded by good literacy.
I would like to be able to send home books that the parents can read with my students, so I have several Spanish editions.
My parents want be involved in their children's education. To keep the books safe, I have backpacks in my cart, also.
These items will help increase my students' abilities to be independent and successful readers. It will increase their chances of moving into general education classrooms.
