My students come into the classroom ready to learn! They know we will be exploring new and interesting topics, always with the help of literature!
My students are eager learners.
They soak up every bit of information you throw at them. Excitement shows in their eyes when they walk into the room in the morning and quickly grab and complete their entry task. They are silent when I do read-aloud and enjoy reading with each other. They are helpful and kind. Our school is a very unique place with love flowing throughout it's rooms and hallways. We strive to make every child feel welcome and important.
My Project
The books I'm asking for (a set of Rookie Readers, a Katie Woo book set and an Emergent Readers book set) will take my kiddos from the start of the year all the way until the end. They come in as beginning readers and I push for them to be advanced by the end of the year. Our school's motto is "Read, Read, Read". We spend mornings reading and earning points for their fun rewards. The students enjoying digging through the class library to find a book that looks interesting to them, and that they are able to independently read. You can see the sense of accomplishment when they first read independently. I have a small, old and outdated classroom library currently. My books spend more time in the "Book Hospital" than they do on the shelves. Towards the end of the year, my library dwindles down to nil.
These young readers need exposure to all types of literature.
The children will be able to continue to read throughout the school year without the problem of running out of books, or only having books that are too easy for them. They love to read. I am asking for these books to keep that love of reading alive.
